I spend almost all of my time with the interns’ prose reining them in; emphasizing the spare and economic techniques of straight newswriting; eliminating the flowery, ruling out the editorial voice. So it’s a beautiful thing, in the week’s student newspaper, to see Amy Mrotek ’16 in full and wonderful flight; owning her voice, relishing all the words – all of them! – uncrushed. And, speaking of the St. Norbert Times, here’s a very classy retraction to the front-page lead of that previous issue. The original, sparked by contact from a savvy marketer, really made no untrue statements. It misled simply by omission. This full-page correction was the writers’ own initiative, graciously and promptly offered. What a great service to her readers!
