A Few Choice Words …

12066018_10153605824822110_2771932851976865173_n… from our new issue:

lepidopterous Love this one! We have a bit of fun with the “in” phrases we use to set up our list of online exclusives, and “In matters lepidopterous” was the brilliant touch from Jill that introduced a video about the Moth Project.

Akkadian It’s an ancient language. Tom Bolin (Theology & RS) can muddle through it with a dictionary once it’s been transliterated into the Latin alphabet and now, via 3-D printout of a cuneiform tablet, he’s found a new way to share it with his students.

Beekle Nicholas Patton ’03 interviews Dan Santat, Caldecott Medal winning author of “The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend.”

Yooper Five of our women hockey players make up the Yooper line, and they’re making quite a difference!

dihydroeugenol It’s a college magazine, there’s always something like this one for our proofreader to wrangle! It’s a chemical that’s of value in the fragrance and flavor industries, and Ian Klein ’10 has become a little bit famous for his work deriving the compound from wood waste.

8-year-old Okay, doesn’t have quite the ring of the others on this list, and doubtless this phrase has appeared in our pages before in other contexts. But it’s likely the first time we wrote about an 8-year-old beginning her college search.

thank-you The magic word. This issue was full of thank-yous for the wonderful outpouring of generosity that the college receives, and this Campaign-closing thank-you video says it in so many ways.
