I enjoy it when we have occasion to use new, colorful, weird or fancy words in the magazine, but this issue it is phrases that are lingering with me:
“Digital-free and blissed-out” – President Brian Bruess ’90 on his childhood summers, spent camping in Wisconsin’s state parks.
“We know something wonderful is coming – even as the maps whisper, yes, but what is yet to come?” – President Emeritus Tom Kunkel* on the late-19th century maps of De Pere that hung in his office.
“A quiet so deep and wondrous you can hear the universe speak” – Terese Allen ’77, in her article on the food – and other things – we relish up North.
“Prison ministry is implicit in the mission statement of St. Norbert in as much as we recognize that to visit the prisoner is a corporal act of mercy.” – Father Jim Neilson ’88 (Art), on the meaningful connections between the college and the local prison
“I think everyone’s voice jumped up an octave when they saw the cuteness overload.” – Dr. Michele Bangsboll, bride of Dr. Nick Anderson ’11 on rescue kittens Jeeves and Houdini, who joined in the photo shoot at their March 25 wedding.
“Happy Birthday to us” – because it is the magazine’s 50th anniversary.
Tempted? The issue will be online at snc.edu/magazine this weekend and in mailboxes next wee.
*Okay, least favorite phrase in the issue: “President Emeritus Tom Kunkel.” Change is exciting, but we will miss him!
