This is an ad for DKNY’s Be Delicious perfume for women.

Sex Role Perspective

This ad reinforces stereotypical female characteristics.

There is a woman in the ad who seems to be outside. She is wearing simple clothing while holding an apple in her hand. She is staring straight into the camera, to get people’s attention. Her hair is blowing in the wind with parted lips. The model is showing feminine touch through the way she is holding the apple in her hand. She has simple, fresh makeup on that makes her skin look flawless.

Gaze Theory

This ad definitely is geared toward the male gaze. The name of the perfume (Be Delicious) alone alludes that women are meant to be sexual objects for men. Also, the placement of the two perfume bottles suggests the woman’s breasts and that they are delicious. The perfume is targeted toward men for the purpose of making their partners smell delicious for their pleasure.
