This is an advertisement for a woman’s dress from American Apparel. Although the dress is being sold, the model’s pose has a lot to do with the sex role theory. The model looks feminine, soft spoken, warm, gentle and loyal. She looks like she could listen to you talk and really understand you and care about what you say. Compared to the male model’s pose and face the female model here is selling the dress with her body while the male model is really not, just by his face. I also noticed this right away as I clicked on “view all” for woman’s tops, they are all posing while the men do not really pose. American Apparel really uses the model’s bodies more than their faces to sell the product. The poses are really what stands out. The poses are pretty sexual and this ad is very feminine, with make up and no body hair insight.
