This is an ad with Natalie Portman for Dior’s Miss Dior perfume.

Sex Role Perspective

This ad reinforces stereotypical female characteristics.

Natalie Portman is laying on the floor in a dress that looks like it is draped on her body and held up by her hand. She is staring straight into the camera with parted lips. She is showing feminine touch with her hand, since it is delicately placed on her chest. She is also showing this through her leg that is delicately placed forward to show her butt. Her skin is smooth and flawless, which reinforces the stereotype of women to look flawless.

Gaze Theory

The ad itself is geared toward the male gaze. The slogan for the campaign is “And you, What would you do for love?”. This mixed with the picture of Natalie Portman shows women that they should be objects of pleasure for men to fall in love with them.
