Does this episode pass the Bechdel Test? Nope. Why? Every conversation between two women involves Walt’s name. In one of the first scenes, Skyler is talking to a divorce lawyer. She kicks Walt out of the house, which goes against female stereotypes because she is being assertive. She finds out he is into drugs and she does not want that around her family, especially the newborn baby she is expecting any day now. She is also talking to her sister Marie throughout the episode, and when Walter Jr. comes home and is mad at his mother for what she did to Walt, and for not talking to him, instead of nurturing him, she doesn’t say anything, because she doesn’t want anyone to know why she is mad at Walt. She is assertive in holding her ground and not becoming emotional at the thought of her marriage crumbling. When Walt admits to her that he is manufacturing methamphetamine, she gets up from the conversation and all she says is “NO!” because Walt tries to get her to sit down and talk about the situation with him. Skyler wants nothing to do with her husband and is assertive and independent as she walks away. She tells Walt she won’t tell anyone, even her brother-in-law Hank, who works for the DEA, or Walter’s children about the drugs if he grants her the divorce. She is very dominant and goes against many of the female stereotypes in this scene because she is so angry with her husband.
