Examples of Masculine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:

  • Assertive: Macy repeatedly reminds Maggie to respect her boundaries in this episode, most notably when she meddles in Macy’s budding romantic relationship with Galvin.
  • Independent: Macy struggles to open up to Galvin on a deeper level, perhaps a larger sign of her struggle with her mother abandoning her as a baby, and being raised by her single father. Maggie even says to her in a scene late in the episode, “I wouldn’t have to get in your head if you’d just talk to me and be my sister.”
  • Willing to take a stand/acts as leader/has leadership abilities: Macy is able to think quick on her feet and use her own blood as a virgin to lure the Harbinger of Hell away from the Halloween party taking place at the Vera Manor, saving countless innocents from death.

Examples of Feminine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:

  • Tender: After Maggie says to Macy, “I wouldn’t have to get in your head if you’d just talk to me and be my sister,” Macy opens up and is vulnerable for a moment, sharing how her father once sent her to boarding school in Connecticut, where she was one of two POC in her whole grade. While her friend Tasha chose to be the sexy, funny one, Macy chose to be the smart, serious one, which is why she struggles with being seen as “sexy” or “provocative.”
  • Affectionate: After trapping the Harbinger of Hell with her sisters and Harry, Macy is able to let down her guard enough to share her first kiss with Galvin outside of the Manor.

Conclusion: This episode shares more light on Macy’s background as an Afro-Latina woman, and how she was shaped by inhabiting a mostly white space at a boarding school. This experience was clearly a large impact on why Macy struggles to be vulnerable with anyone on a friendly or romantic level. While still having mostly masculine traits this episode, Macy is clearly still on a path to becoming more “vulnerable,” and therefore, more typically “feminine” on the Bed Sex Role Inventory.
