This episode shows us how much Lucifer actually cares for Chloe, which is cute if it was executed perfectly. He goes about it all backwards though… to keep Chloe safe, he figures she has to be out of his personal spotlight since things are always happening to him. To do this, he avoids Chloe for basically the whole episode, which of course hurts her feelings. The crime of this episode shows us more celebrities in danger of their own spotlight. This time, a singer is dead… except she isn’t, because she changed places with a backup singer without anybody knowing. So the backup singer is dead but there was still a threat made on the singer’s life. Of course, Lucifer takes the case too seriously and applies it to his own problems. The singer’s backup was killed for being in her spotlight, much like how dangerous it is for Chloe to be in his spotlight. However, his idea of keeping her safe actually pushes her further from him. By the end of the episode, we find the killer and everything seems perfectly okay. Except nothing is, not to Lucifer, because he pushed Chloe so far away that she decided to go on a date with Pierce. Lucifer thought the tickets on her desk were for the two of them, except she had already invited Pierce. His jealousy can be heard in his actions at this point, and the episode ends with him watching Chloe and Pierce leave the precinct together.
While Lucifer might be a bizarre character, he has a heart of gold. Sometimes it’s hard for immortals to act human, maybe we should give him a break. In typical male fashion, he showed Chloe how much he cares for her in the worst possible way. This leaves him heavily upset and he realizes he made a huge mistake. Crazy episodes aside, he is still heavily attracted to her, possibly in love. Lucifer cares too much, which is hard for anyone to believe considering how he behaves. Unfortunately, now he has to deal with the consequences of his behavior.
