In episode thirteen, Bree goes through a divorce, Gabby has to see John again, and Susan and Lynette deal with their family problems. 

This episode would not pass the Bechdel test. 

  • There are four main characters that are girls 
  • The four girls are all neighbors and close friends, so they interact almost daily
  • In this episode, all of their conversations revolved around a male. 

Bree

  • Feminine characteristics: yielding, compassionate, doesn’t use harsh language, loves children, 
    • Bree does everything she can to care for her husband through their separation. She only cares for him to show her children her love for them and respect for Rex. 
  • Masculine characteristics: assertive, willing to take risks, self-sufficient, dominant, willing to take a stand, ambitious 
    • Bree becomes very adamant during her and her husband’s separation of assets in their divorce settlement. 

Susan

  • Feminine characteristics: understanding, childlike, loves children
    • Susan raises her daughter alone and begins to have to deal with boy drama as she starts high school. 
  • Masculine characteristics: assertive, willing to take risks
    • Susan has to start setting rules for her daughter that she thought she wouldn’t have to.  

Lynette

  • Feminine characteristics: affectionate, loyal, loves children
    • Lynette expresses her loyalty and affection towards her husband and her family. 
  • Masculine characteristics: assertive, willing to take a stand 
    • Lynette catches her father-in-law with a woman who is not his wife.

Gabby

  • Feminine characteristics: yielding, feminine, understanding
    • Gabby is supportive of John and declines his proposal like a lady. 
  • Masculine characteristics: willing to take risks
    • Gabby is forced to go talk to John after his parents showed up at her house.
