Week 11: Recreating Simplifying the Grid

Categories Full Spectrum Learning Research

Week 11 consisted of a major project of simplifying the language on the grid and also refilming an interview of Dr. Riggle.

Two Audiences

The major obstacle for the Full Spectrum Learning website is the idea of having two different audiences to understand the material. The first audience is the more general and everyday person while the second audience is the in-depth academic audience. Therefore, all of the videos, pages, and language have to be able to appeal to both audiences.

Simplifying the Grid

Full Spectrum Learning is based on a grid with the axes of technology involvement and engagement of students in the classroom. Because of the two audiences, FSL has, Ruthie and I started to work on simplifying the grid. Right now the grid uses very academic and pedagogical language and can be complicated to understand. Also, the amount of text on the grid can be hard to read and we wanted to create an easier to read grid with less text. Because of this, we decided to shorten the text into easy to understand bullet points.

Filming of Dr. Riggle

Thursday morning consisted of re-shooting Dr. Riggle for his video. Over the past week, Ruthie and I have been editing and cutting videos and realized that some of the videos did not fit our goals for the videos. Therefore, we decided to reshoot some of the videos with more directed questions.
