The main focus of this week has been continuing to add color to grid. I experimented with the colors of the text to help it pop out of the grid a bit more and make it easier to read. The major difference I made was darkening the background color of the grid to help the colors pop. I also experimented with the color swatch and turning that into a grid format to really show the blend of color and also the different colors of each…Continue Reading “Week 14: More Experimenting with Colors”
The main focus of this week was the intersections. This meant focusing on the mix of both of the axies of the grid and where they meet. At the beginning of the week, I helped to make an animation of the grid showing the intersection of engagement and technology for the professor videos. This video really helped me to visualize the combination and necessity of both axes instead of only focusing on one. The rest of the week was spent naming all of the other…Continue Reading “Week 13: Adding a Touch of Color”
Week 11 consisted of a major project of simplifying the language on the grid and also refilming an interview of Dr. Riggle. Two Audiences The major obstacle for the Full Spectrum Learning website is the idea of having two different audiences to understand the material. The first audience is the more general and everyday person while the second audience is the in-depth academic audience. Therefore, all of the videos, pages, and language have to be able to appeal to both audiences. Simplifying the Grid Full Spectrum…Continue Reading “Week 11: Recreating Simplifying the Grid”
The main project I helped on this week was editing the footage we shot for the first video for the grid. Ruthie mainly edited and created the first teaser video, however, I helped her to refine the video and edited the full-length interviews. This work was very tedious and also time-consuming. The rest of the week was spent reading and exploring different research and studies behind Full Spectrum Learning focusing on one square of the grid. One of the studies was based on TPCK and…Continue Reading “Week 10: Research and Video Editing”
As anyone who has worked on creating a responsive website knows, tables are not always your friends. This fact is especially true on the Full Spectrum Learning site due to how wide the table is with all of the content. To combat this problem, I decided to use a media query and CSS to eliminate the table on the mobile version and to create a more mobile-friendly view. On the mobile view, our team decided to name each intersection and call the videos by their…Continue Reading “Week 9: Creating a Responsive Table”
This week focused on trying to figure out the interactive table on the website. This process had me look into different plug-in options along with different coding options. Ultimately I decided to use HTML and CSS to code the table myself. It has been a long time since I have coded from scratch and had to look at source code. I really enjoyed this process as it reassured me that this is what I would like to do for the rest of my life. Throughout…Continue Reading “Week 8: Back to HTML and CSS”
This past Friday, October 12th, I along with a group of faculty and students presented our progress of Full Spectrum Learning and the Domains Initiative to the Board of Trustees. At St. Norbert College, the board of trustees over sees the president and the college. I presented with a fellow student and research fellow, Ruthie. The Week of the Presentation The week of the presentation involved many different elements and meetings. The first meeting on Monday afternoon was with the presenting group and explained the…Continue Reading “Board of Trustees Presentation”
The main accomplishment of this week was updating my personal blog with the implementation of the Google Drive Gallery Plugin. This plugin allows pictures to be pulled from Google Drive instead of the WordPress Media Library. This makes it easier to add and delete pictures, along with mainly lowering the storage on the domain. The download of the plugin took a little bit of time to understand, but there were detailed instructions to go along with it. Instalation The plugin was easy to install and…Continue Reading “Week 6: Google Drive Gallery”
The main focus for me this week was the opportunities section of the Full Spectrum Learning website. Throughout the week, I transformed an application into a Google Form, learned about the grants/stipends available for Full Spectrum Learning for faculty, and continued to grow in understanding of the different opportunities available at St. Norbert. Opportunities Available The main new opportunity I learned about this week was the T3 conference. Every May, St. Norbert hosts faculty and staff from colleges across the country to a conference about…Continue Reading “Week 5: Opportunities Page”
The main mission for me this week was to start to design the Full Spectrum Learning website for us to promote. The first step in making this site is to decide on a theme in WordPress. There are thousands to choose from, however, I ultimately decided on a theme called Shapely. Shapely’s homepage consists of many different widgets and blocks of information mixed together to create a visually appealing website. For the first draft of this site, we wanted to have information about what Full…Continue Reading “Week 4: Designing the Site”
