Does this episode pass the Bechdel Test? Nope. Skyler is having a hard time talking to Walter Jr. due to the news of her filing for divorce from Walter. Walter Jr. is upset because he thinks his parents have fallen out of love, and he doesn’t want them to split up. She tries to tell him that his aunt and uncle are coming over with takeout, and when she brings up that Walter Jr. is looking for a job, he blows up on her and says just because you don’t love him {Hank} anymore, doesn’t mean I don’t! Immediately, Skyler’s sister Marie goes to give her a hug and calm her down, falling under the feminine stereotypes of compassion and nurturing. In another scene, Skyler went against feminine stereotypes when she slams the door and locks it in Walt’s face when he tries to come over and talk. He even brought pizza and dipping sticks, but when she sees him she explains that they have nothing else to discuss and that he should leave. She is very assertive in this situation and instead of breaking down and forgiving Walt immediately, she stands her ground. He then leaves and throws the pizza on the roof, in a sense pouting that he didn’t get his way. Although this episode didn’t pass the Bechdel Test, there were many instances in which stereotypes were seen, whether going for or against them.
