For my eleventh portfolio post, I analyzed a new perfume commercial from Versace. This commercial used a very unique filming style that I found intriguing.

  • relative size — absent
  • feminine touch — present, the most obvious example of feminine touch is at 46 seconds when the female lead runs her hands through her wet hair.
  • function ranking — absent
  • the family — absent
  • ritualization of subordination — absent
  • licensed withdrawal. — present, example of licensed withdrawal are present throughout this commercial (for example, at 14 seconds, 28 seconds, and 42 seconds).

Overall, this commercial was stereotypical in the fact that the commercial takes place on a beach and we are only shown clips of models and athletically built individuals. However, the commercial does not contain examples of the family, function ranking, or ritualization of subordination which are, in my opinion, more demeaning of women.
