Does this episode pass the Bechdel test? Nope. Why not? At no point in this episode are Skyler, Marie, or any of the other female main characters having a conversation, especially one that doesn’t involve men. Gretchen, who her and husband offered to pay for Walt’s cancer treatments, calls Skyler at the beginning of the episode asking to meet up, and Skyler was so thankful in speaking with Gretchen, showing off a female trait of compassion. This scene did not pass the Bechdel test, however, because the two weren’t physically together, they were speaking over the phone, and the conversation was about Walt, so it did not pass. When Gretchen comes to the White residence later in the afternoon, Skyler is so happy and emotional to see her, displaying her feminine features of comforting, compassion, and emotional. Marie, the other main character of the show, was not even present at all throughout this episode, and there are a few other random women in some scenes, like Walter’s boss, the school principal, but nothing passes the Bechdel Test in this episode.
