Fitness guru, Steph Claire Smith, is presented on the cover of a 2019 issue of Women’s Health magazine. In this image, Smith represents several feminine characteristics by the way that she is positioned throughout the cover.

A Sex RoleĀ Perspective
  1. Clothing
    • Obviously in this image, Smith is shown with little clothing. She is presented simply in undergarments that allow the audience to look directly at her body. This is a typical way that women are portrayed in order for their bodies to be objectified.
  2. Feminine Stance
    • In this image, Smith’s body is arranged in a way where women tend to be portrayed. With her hip popped out and leg with a slight bend, Smith is accentuating certain parts of her body to be looked at more specifically.
Goffman’s Gender Displays
  1. Feminine Touch
    • In addition to the way Smith is standing, she is also touching herself and other objects. With the way she is lightly holding the jacket to her shoulder and softly grazing her leg with her hand, Smith represents that tender, and warm stereotype commonly associated with women.
