Not Following Stereotypes

Ian and Mickey are in prison together and they are partners outside of prison. In the scene, they are having sex and then they start fighting. Usually being gay is not a stereotype of a man, usually, men are expected to want to find a woman.

Ian and Mickey are fighting is also not a stereotype because men usually do not get mad over small things and get emotional. Men usually do not argue back and forth, they are supposed to be unbothered by petty things, but Mickey and Ian are constantly fighting because they are always together in prison.

A delivery truck driver dies in V and Kevin’s bar bathroom and V has the idea to raid his truck to get all of the packages. She leads all of the men outside to steal the packages. Women are not seen as leaders especially leading men to do something risky like stealing packages from a truck.

In the prison, Ian is a nurse and takes care of the sick inmates. Men are not people who are seen as nurses, that is seen as a woman’s job. Women are supposed to be nurses and show that maternal side of them. When a man is a nurse it definitely goes against stereotypes.

Laurie is Carl’s boss and she constantly sexually harasses Carl and he doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. She then says that he can come over after work, he then asks if this was sexual harassment and Laurie says that it isn’t because he’s a guy.  This is not stereotypical because a lot of the times we only see or bring up sexual harassment if it is a guy harassing a girl.

Lip is a single dad and he is learning how to take care of Fred. Lip is overtired and needs to take a shower, he then takes a bath with Fred, when he gets out he slips and falls but Fred is okay and Frank says that Lip should get some rest. Lip then starts crying because he is overcome with fear of what could have happened if he dropped Fred and from being overtired. Again Lip is showing his emotions which is not stereotypical for a man to do.

Following Stereotypes

Debbie buys expensive clothes and returns them when their return date is up. She tries to return them and the clerk won’t let her return them because he knows she has worn them. He then says that he will let her return them in exchange for oral sex. Debbie then says that all men want is sex. She then says that she wants to perform oral sex and that it is okay because now it is her idea and she is in control. This is very stereotypical for men to want some sort of sexual activity in exchange for something else.

Since Debbie is the head of the house she controls all of the funds. Mickey picks up on this and he tells Frank that he needs to stop letting women control his life. This is stereotypical of men not want women to control what they do or how they do it.

Frank later believes that the women are controlling his life and he says that he cannot keep having them control his life. Again men do not want women controlling their finances and what they do in life.
