The Youtube Channel with the third most subscriptions is a channel called Cocomelon – Nursery Rhymes. This channel is a channel made for a very young demographic and is, you guessed it, full of nursery rhymes to entertain the developing brains of young children today. Because the audience of this channel is mostly young children, the sex role perspective this channel has can have a large impact on how these kids will view gender roles in the future. The nursery rhymes are songs that include a very young boy, maybe 1 years old, a young girl, maybe 5 years old, and a young boy around the same age of the girl. These are the main characters in these videos, along with a few side characters appearing occasionally, such as their mother or animals. The older boy tends to follow more masculine sex roles such as wearing darker colors and backwards hats. The young girl tends to follow feminine sex roles by wearing purple and pink dresses. The baby boy though has been seen wearing both pink and blue in different episodes. He tends to be less strict on his sex roles of being a boy. The characters do not have much depth as all three of the characters usually are all doing the same activities in every episode. So we can see that besides the clothing of the older children, this channel does not use sex roles very much in the activities they do. One thing I do notice with sex role perspective on this channel is the parents. The father is usually not in many episodes, while the mother appears often and is very loving and caring towards the kids. This seems to follow the sex role of females and being a loving, gentle, and caring mother. The older the character, the more they follow gender stereotypes.
