Examples of Masculine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Self-sufficient/independent: After an incident occurs where Macy burns her hand on the stove and doesn’t feel it (a classic demonic trait according to Harry), she shuts down emotionally and runs away to the attic when Harry and her sisters begin to argue over her wellbeing and whether or not to contact the Elders about it. She also tries using an “escape oil” of Marisol’s to ease her stress.
- Leadership ability: When the “escape oil” transports two angel characters and a vampire out of Macy’s favorite TV show, she is able to use her knowledge of the show and her own scientific knowledge to dispatch the vampire and another demon that later comes through the portal bridging the show and reality. She is also able to use her knowledge of the show later on when she and Harry get stuck inside the TV show themselves.
- Assertive: Macy makes her decision clear to Maggie and Mel at the end of the episode that she will be consulting the Elders herself for assistance with her demonic side, and that she hopes Mel can understand why.
Examples of Feminine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Understanding: At the beginning of the episode, Macy and Maggie talk about an awkward sexual encounter that Maggie had with Parker where her powers activated. Macy says she can relate because her own powers activated when she was with Galvin at the end of last episode.
- Eager to soothe hurt feelings: Macy talks to Harry about wanting not to alienate Mel by consulting the Elders about her demon side, especially when Mel is distrustful of all of them, but most especially Charity.
- Vulnerable: Macy tells the two angels what their TV show did for her as a lonely preteen when she was getting bullied at boarding school, and how it brought her hope. She is also willing to share the show with both Harry and her sisters, showing that she wants them to know and care about her interests.
- Gullible: Macy and Harry do get tricked by the angels from the show, getting pushed through the portal to the TV show in the middle of the episode, where they could have gotten trapped forever, if not for Maggie and Mel.
Conclusion: Overall, Macy is continuing to grow as a character throughout this episode. She is willing to share more with Maggie about her relationship with Maggie, and she is open to both her sisters and Harry about the television show that got her through a rough period in her life. It is clear that Macy wants to be more vulnerable now, and while her more “masculine” traits are present, there is now more of a balance between her “masculine” and “feminine” traits. She is evolving, and I can’t wait to see where the show takes her next.
