Examples of Masculine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Ambitious/acts as leader/has leadership abilities: Macy is excelling in her new position as lab supervisor, taking on extra hours there to impress her boss. She is also becoming more of a leadership voice in the Charmed Ones, urging her sisters to regroup and strategize when it comes to looking for the rogue half-witch/half-Whitelighter, Jada, who stole the Scythe of Tartarus from them last episode.
- Independent: Macy contemplates signing up for a dating app, but worries that she’ll be fetishized by her matches for being a Black woman, and sets the idea aside.
- Aggressive/willing to take a stand: Macy defeats the cicada demon by telekinetically crushing it under a piece of machinery to save herself and the other humans that were kidnapped by the demon in an attempt to breed with them.
Examples of Feminine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Sympathetic/sensitive to others’ needs: Macy lets Galvin head home early when she sees that he’s having a rough day, and later talks him through some of his personal issues concerning his failed romance with Summer and his research at work.
- Warm/tender: With encouragement from Maggie, Macy tests out the dating app she downloads later in the episode, going out with a man named Wes (who turns out to be a cicada demon, but that’s beside the point). She later admits to her sisters that she’s still attracted to Galvin, and then successfully asks him out for drinks at the end of the episode.
Conclusion: This is another episode where Maggie and Mel are very much focal points. However, Macy does get a good line in about the fetishization of black women on dating apps, again perhaps relating back to Macy’s time in boarding school, choosing to be the “smart, serious” one rather than “sexy” or “funny.” It is clear that Macy’s sisterly relationship with Maggie is deepening quickly, and this bond is one that is pushing Macy to be more vulnerable and open about what she wants, and I look forward to seeing this relationship progress more throughout the series.
