Relative Size: Black Widow is the largest character portrayed on the poster as well as the only one with a full body shot.
Feminine Touch: Absent however Black Widow is clutching weapons in her hands
Function ranking: Absent
The Family: Absent. However, this movie has yet to be released yet. The synopsis indicated that a few of the characters on the poster may serve as “chosen” family to Natasha Romanoff. If this is the case, then the trend would be consistent with past posters where even if a family is on the cover of a Marvel poster, they aren’t interacting in a familial manner.
Ritualization of subordination: Even though the character, Red Guardian, is in the background of the poster, he is in fact portrayed above Black Widow on the movie poster.
Licensed Withdrawal: An interesting contrast to other posters, the majority of the characters on the posters are making eye contact with the viewers. First there are the unidentifiable characters at the bottom of the poster looking straight ahead. Then Red Guardian, Melina, and Black Widow are all also making eye contact with the viewer.
Note: As mentioned in the previous post, since I was running short on material to analyze I decided to include a movie poster for a film that has yet to be released. I was really excited to analyze this poster because it marks a pretty huge win towards fairly representing women in the hero movie industry. Black Widow has also been a part of the Marvel Universe screen for much longer than say Captain Marvel so I think the MCU fandom will be more excited for the release of this film as it feels like Black Widow is “finally getting the recognition she deserves.” In conclusion, it’s important to note that since the movie has yet to be released that my analyses may be somehow biased or skewed in comparison to the other films that I have already seen.
