In episode eight, the girls help Gabby as her mother in law is in the hospital. Bree deals with her son while Susan spends time with Mike. Lynette has her own troubles as she has been taking her children’s ADD medication. 

This episode would pass the Bechdel test. 

  • There are four main characters that are girls 
  • The four girls are all neighbors and close friends, so they interact almost daily
  • In this episode, the girls discuss Carlos’s mother’s condition. 

Bree

  • Feminine characteristics: sensitive to others’ needs, understanding, eager to soothe hurt feelings, loves children, sympathetic 
    • Bree and her husband decide to cover up Andrew’s hit and run to ensure he doesn’t go to jail. Bree and her family decide to stop by and make sure Gabby and Carlos are doing OK. 
  • Masculine characteristics: willing to take risks, makes decisions easily, willing to take a stand, individualistic, competitive, ambitious 
    • Bree does anything and everything to take care of her children and be successful as a mother even if it means she is breaking the law and helping her son get away with hitting Carlos’ mother. 

Susan

  • Feminine characteristics: affectionate, loyal, sympathetic 
    • Susan becomes head-over-heels with Mike as he invites her to a weekend getaway. 
  • Masculine characteristics: willing to take risks, makes decisions easily 
    • Susan digs around Mike’s house as she finds a suspicious amount of cash and a gun. 

Lynette

  • Feminine characteristics: loves children
    • Lynette hosts her children’s boy scout group meeting to teach them how to tie knots. 
  • Masculine characteristics: assertive 
    • As Lynette tries to go off of her son’s ADD pills, her sleep schedule is very out of her normal cycle. She becomes very assertive towards her children as she is sleep-deprived. 

Gabby

  • Feminine characteristics: sympathetic, loyal 
    • Gabby cares for and stays by her husband’s side as his mother is in a coma. 
  • Masculine characteristics: defends own beliefs, willing to take a stand 
    • Gabby stands her ground of not wanting to have children although Carlos begs her during these difficult times.
