For my 8th portfolio post I decided to mix things up by looking at the perfume of a celebrity. Namely, Ariana Grande. Although, the perfume line is still created by the company Ulta.
- relative size — absent
- feminine touch – absent
- function ranking — absent (if anything, Ariana was presented as a high-power individual).
- the family — absent
- ritualization of ritualization — absent
- licensed withdrawal — absent? One might argue that Ariana does this while dancing and singing in the back of the taxi (1:20-1:30). However, i believe that this is simply her taking artistic liberty and should be considered part of her dancing..
Overall, this commercial was very different from those previously analyzed. First of all, the only male character is an elderly taxi driver who is respectful of Ariana and her reputation. Secondly, one could argue that none of Goffman’s gender displays are applicable for this video which has not yet occurred while making these posts.
