Examples of Masculine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Leadership ability/assertiveness/defends own beliefs: When their mother Marisol’s spirit contacts the girls through a Ouija board with a warning not to trust their Whitelighter, Harry, Macy demands that they find “objective evidence” against him, using her scientific knowledge and expertise. She also goes so far as to tell her sisters to “not let their feelings get in the way” of their investigation into Harry’s true motives.
- Independence: Macy conducts her own research into a new demon threat in Hilltowne that has struck at the university lab, taking a sample of demonic residue to examine. She also makes her own truth serum to use on Harry all on her own, using a recipe from the Book of Shadows.
- Strong personality: Macy has begun to struggle with her newfound sisterhood, even saying to both Mel and Maggie, “It’s you two, and me, the outsider.”
Examples of Feminine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Sensitive to the needs of others/sympathetic: Macy respects her sisters’ grieving process when she formally moves into the Vera manor and into their mother’s old room. She keeps several objects and furniture in place until she got Mel and Maggie’s approval to move them.
- Eager to soothe hurt feelings: Macy formally apologizes to Galvin twice in this episode, once for the telekinetic beer bottle incident in the Pilot episode, as well as for abruptly hanging up on him while investigating Harry and the emerging demonic threats in Hilltowne. By doing this, she successfully repairs their friendship by the end of the episode.
Conclusion: Macy exhibits a bit more feminine traits in this episode, most likely due to her sisters’ influence. She is also willing to open up to Harry and Galvin more, thusly forming and strengthening bonds of friendship outside of her immediate family. However, it is clear that her conditioning in her formative years to be assertive and independent will continue to be an obstacle in her relationships with both Mel and Maggie as the series goes on.
