About a month ago I was conversing with my boyfriend and his brother about Christmas, and my boyfriend’s brother shared that him and his roommates do not decorate for Christmas most years! This includes no Christmas tree! How unfortunate. Therefore, because I love the Christmas season and want others to enjoy it also, my boyfriend, his brother, and myself selected a day to go on a Christmas tree escapade with his roommates. This day was this past Sunday, December 8th. I was so excited!
After a month’s wait, the day finally arrived for our tree hunt. I arrived at their duplex ready for the adventure, and when I walked through the door, I questioned why I agreed to do this with them. Why did I question it? Well, let me share. Upon opening the door into the house, I see each one of them standing in the kitchen dressed in all black. Some had holes in their jeans and others were wearing a black or grey baseball cap or skater hat. Additionally, Christmas trap music was playing in the background. Umm…okay. I was unsure of how to judge the big mood taking place before me. I pictured our tree extravaganza consisting of cute Christmas sweaters and playing classical Christmas music. This was not so. Shortly after arriving, I too was wearing all black and a skater hat.
…well, let this adventure begin!….but wait, I first want to clarify something…
From what I have written so far, I may come across as being surprised and maybe even bummed at the “thug-like” Christmas tree adventure the guys were creating. However, that is not so. The adventure was so much fun! I quickly became engaged in the workings for it was exciting and different. Conversation, laughter, and smiles were present throughout the entirety of our trip. Despite receiving some odd looks from those we encountered during our trip, I embraced the moment and the amusement that came with it.
Ok…back to the story…
After we were all dressed in our “thug-like” clothing (I say that because we were wearing dark apparel), we squished into our friend’s small car and drove to Black Creek in search for a tree while continuing to listen to Christmas trap music. I want to share, I was not a fan of the music originally; however, Christmas trap does grow on you a bit if you listen to the right songs. Anyways, arriving at the tree farm, we filed out of the car, spoke with the owner, grabbed our saw, and began our hike. Oh, but first, we had to take a picture with the owner’s orange cat.
Our original intention was to find a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and we sought one for 45 minutes. Our hunt around the entirety of the farm involved dance breaks, joking, testing the solidity of ice, and taking pictures with some sad looking trees. Yet, after 45 minutes, we did not find a tree that spoke to us. From one end of the farm to the other, and we did not find our Charlie Brown tree. Running short on time and with a setting sun, we selected a typical looking Christmas tree.
Before chopping down our tree, we had to take a picture of it as you saw when you clicked on this post. There was no one around, so we made several attempts of resting our phones against the snow and setting camera timers to take a decent picture. If you ask me, we took an exceptional one! When chopping down our tree, each one of us took a turn, and my boyfriend’s brother carried it to the car for us. We strapped it down, piled back into the vehicle, and headed back to the duplex.
A stop at the gas station was necessary on our way back. At the gas station, we all piled out of the car to ask someone to take our picture. However, not a soul was out of their vehicles, most likely because of the cold, and none of us were brave enough to knock on someone’s window and ask. So, we did it ourselves. To be honest, I would have approached someone, but I perceived us as looking a bit intimidating in our “thug-like” appearance. When we arrived back at the duplex we brought the tree in the house, and we began to decorate it.
This adventure was not what I expected it to be, but that is okay because I had so much fun! My family sets up fake Christmas trees each year, so I had never participated in the adventure of going to a tree farm, chopping down a tree, and bringing it home. It was my first time, and I went with some pretty amazing people!
To further share about my adventure, I attached a video I created for you to enjoy!
