Friends! I am no longer a teenager! I have turned 20!
September 5th was my birthday, and this year I had a lot of people ask me how it feels to be 20. Moreso, they were wondering if it has felt like anything has changed. My answer: yes! So, what has changed? Well, I confidently can say that I feel more my age now 🙂
What I mean is that I feel like I am 20. I have always been more mature for my age, and in the past few years, I did not feel as if I was a teenager. I have been very involved in my education, worked multiple jobs at once, and spent time pursuing relationships with my boyfriend, family, and friends. I have grown up a lot these past few years, and I have learned many new things about myself. Consequently, I often felt older than I was. A secondary reason I am glad to be 20 is that people cannot pull the “teenager card” on me anymore! I think that point explains itself.
This weekend started with some amazing time spent with my close friends here at school. They pampered me before taking me out to dinner by doing my nails, hair, and makeup. They then treated me to dinner at 1919 (a tasty restaurant in Lambeau Field) and ice cream at Zesty’s. My four close friends and I went to dinner, and the guys joined us for ice cream afterward. I did not know that the guys were going to be joining us, so it was a nice surprise! Shortly after arriving back on campus, my boyfriend called me and told me to come outside. I was confused because he was going out of town last weekend to engage in some family affairs, so I did not understand why he wanted me to go outside. But, he surprised me and was waiting for me to go down to meet him! He hadn’t left town yet, so I was able to spend the rest of my evening with Mark which made me even happier. It was a good surprise, and I am so grateful for my friends to have organized an evening for me as they did.
Saturday I decided to go home and spend some time with my family. My mom picked me up Saturday morning and took me out to brunch at a cute diner near campus called Nicolet Restaurant. We had a good conversation and caught up a bit. We then decided to run some errands and pick up a microwave as my birthday gift for my dorm room. I finally got a microwave! The fact that I did not yet have one was my bad…I have been distracted by school that I forgot about it. Also, it has been so hot and muggy here that I have not needed it. After running errands, my sister took me out for ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery, my mom and I went for a walk, and then us girls hung out around the house and waited for my dad and brother to return home. We ended the evening with dinner and a family conversation.
The morning hours of Sunday were quite eventful, and the afternoon and evening were fairly low-key. My siblings and I began the day with a morning hike in High Cliff State Park which was so much fun! High Cliff is only a couple minute drive from our house, and even though we live so close, we don’t explore it as much as you would think. We hiked a few different trails, took some pictures, and, overall, had some quality bonding time. It was nice to hear how my brother has been transitioning into his first year of college at UW-Platteville and how my sister has been doing with virtual learning. Branden is literally thriving, and I could not be happier for him! Hannah is a sophomore at Kaukauna High School, and Kaukauna has decided that students will go to class 2 days a week and be virtual for the other 3 days. So far school has been fine for her, but she enjoys being in class rather than at home engaging in virtual learning. Overall, they are both doing well! Thanks for asking 😉 After returning from our hike, we helped our mom prepare food for lunch. Both sides of my grandparents came over to my family’s home, and we had brunch with them. Eggs, sausage, hash browns, toast, mixed fruit, and donuts! It was so good! That afternoon, after they all left, I took a nap and returned to school. A busy but also relaxing day.
Tomorrow, Mark is going to celebrate my birthday with me by taking me out to dinner and this weekend we are planning to go explore Door County a bit! I know it will be a lot of fun, especially if he is there 🙂
To conclude, I am 20, and this is going to be a big decade! Looking forward to the next 10 years, I will teach abroad, graduate from college, move out of the house, get a teaching job, hopefully get married, do so traveling and maybe start a family. That is a lot! But it is all very exciting! However, if I look at this upcoming year, I am excited to continue to spend time with Mark, my friends, and my family, go on some crazy adventures, meet new people, and keep progressing forward in my education at SNC.
Thank you again to those who celebrated with me as well as everyone else who wished me a Happy Birthday.
