So…life has happened!
I cannot express how quickly time has gone, especially with the COVID-19 ordeal. Since my last post in April, A Simple Walk, A LOT has happened. Firstly, I finished my freshman year of college at home. Several people have asked how it was having virtual instruction, and, to be honest, it was not terrible. It just simply wasn’t ideal. My professors recorded their lectures and posted them for my classmates and I to access along with some assignments. Additionally, I was required to write a significantly greater amount of responses and essays instead of having group conversations about the subjects being studied. When I was at school, the majority of my classwork was done via computer, so it was not difficult to transition in that regard. Rather, the greatest challenge for myself was not having classmates or professors to regularly collaborate with, and I have realized student engagement is critical to success in my learning. This is true in regards to myself because I acquire energy and motivation from interacting and with others. I guess you could state that I am an extrovert 🙂 Confidently, I believe that I am an ambitious individual, but completing my studies at home was difficult for me because my motivation began to decline. That sounds bad, but it was true. Despite that reality, I did finish the semester out strong with high honors, and I am very excited to be back on campus this upcoming fall!
In addition to finishing my semester online, I began my summer job working at the office of Life Promotions! Before working at Life Promotions, I had restaurant, retail, and child care experience. So, this job is a bit different! And, I love it! At Life Promotions, my title is the Assistant to the Festival Director, and my job is to organize, plan, and initiate the festival of Lifest alongside the Festival Director. Well…it was that way a few weeks ago anyways. Due to COVID-19, Lifest had to be cancelled for the Winnebago County Health Department shut us down. For those that are not familiar with Lifest, let me explain. Lifest is one of the largest Christian festivals hosted in the United States. More specifically, the celebration is in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and it features several of the most popular Christian artists at the time. Lifest was founded by Bob Lenz, the same individual that founded the non-profit organization of Life Promotions, and it has been an annual festival ever since 1990! Thousands of people attend the festival every year, and I was going to be blessed with the opportunity to coordinate and implement the event alongside the Festival Director this year. However, due to Lifest’s cancellation, my role at Life Promotions has changed. I am now working for other areas organized by Life Promotions which include Quake, Dignity Revolution, Known Conference for women, and Bob’s school speaking events. I am still as busy as ever working at the office, and it continues to be a unique experience for me. I am still blessed. Alright, what else is new? Oh, well summer is here! When I am not at work, I have been spending my time outside whether that be up north at my family’s cabin, hosting grill outs and bonfires with friends, running, going strawberry picking with my grandma, or going on some fun adventures with my boyfriend. It has been unfortunate that I have not been able to travel, but I have been able to do one of my favorite summer activities: sleeping outside in my hammock! I really enjoy falling asleep under the stars and listening to the frogs. Try it yourself! I will admit, you won’t sleep the best, but it is worth the experience. If you do try it, leave a comment and let me know how it goes!
Each day seems to be going by quickly, and summer seems to be slipping away a little bit. However, it is the 4th of July this weekend, and I don’t know about you, but I am about to enjoy some fireworks! I hope your summer has been treating you well so far and that it has been enjoyable despite being restricted by COVID.
Comment below what your plans are for the 4th of July; I would love to hear about them!
