The 2000 election proved a challenge, as the country seemed divided between the two candidates: George W. Bush ( 47.9%) & Al Gore (48.4%).

Time Magazine wrote “But now there is one immutable fact, one that recounts and lawsuits won’t alter: GEORGE W. BUSH will be our one and only President. What follows is an intimate look at the man and an unflinching assessment of his challenge.”

The cover of the year 2000s Person of the Year shows a smiling George w. Bush, which could appear to be a more “femenine quality”, especially for a magazine cover.

Choice of clothing shows what’s expected of not only a man but one with an important job; reinforcing the idea about suits and high position jobs with the article going further on the idea about what a man should be like. “He ran a more disciplined race than we have seen in years; he made his inexperience a virtue, his vagueness a shield, his sins a sign of sincerity.” All qualities that are compared to shields, discipline and sincerity, masculine features.
