For this entry I am analyzing the music video for “You’d Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone Was Out To Get You)” By Waterparks. This music videos the three members of the band: Awsten Knight, Otto Wood, and Goeff Wigington.
Masculine Stereotypes: At the beginning of the music video the camera pans between Awsten Knight, Otto Wood, and Geoff sitting alone at a table. The backdrop and table are both black. In every frame the boys are sitting in ways that make them take up a lot of space on the frame. Whether that is by holding the guitar or just the way they have their arms out on the table. They are also looking directly into the camera for just about the entire time. They also have very stern faces for the most part during this part of the video. The music video overall has a very dark color scheme. There is one segment where it is entirely in black and white or the beginning with the black table and back drop. While the music video shows them performing their song they are all putting a lot of energy into it. Each member putting their entire body into the singing, drumming, or playing the guitar. At times Awsten is shown being athletic. He is shown lifting weights and biking down a road. Throughout the entire video if they are not playing their song they are staring directly into the camera and the camera does a lot of close up shots so they are taking up the entire frame. They are also wearing some very plan clothing. Each member has a different color they are wearing (Awsten=blue, Geoff=yellow, Otto=red).
Feminine Stereotypes: At one point during the video while they are performing their song they are being recorded by many phones. This shows that they are there to entertain others. This is a feminine stereotype being there for other peoples enjoyment. At the end of the video Awsten is being licked by a dog, this kind of displays a nurturing/ motherly quality.
Gaze Theory: While this video does not have the sexualization or objectification this video is meant to show how watched Awsten feelings. However, this video still does not follow gaze theory because of the lack of sexualization or objectification.
