In this episode of season 5 of The Office, Most of the office staff dedicates an entire work day to debating over whether or not Hillary Swank is hot. Some of the things that they said objectifying and sexualizing her were:
- Kevin alludes to her being hot instead of beautiful because a painting can be beautiful but he does not want to bang a painting.
- Jim says that he views celebrities as mythical creatures and that he doesn’t see Tham as real people so we can’t view them as real.
- “Imagine that Hilary Swank came into the office and said Kevin, I just read your online profile and there is nothing I want to do more than make out with you right now.”
- “she’s a female Boris Becker.”
- Kelly gets upset because if Hillary Swank is not hot than neither is she
- Judge the symmetry of her face to decide if she’s hot
- Stanley calls her sexy
This episode is also all great example of Gaze Theory because it acts as a medium to show how people utilize other forms of media to fantasize over celebrities.
