Season 1 episode 10

Summary:

In the final episode of season 1, Abbi and Ilana go to a fancy seafood restaurant to celebrate Abbi’s birthday.

Masculine:

  • Willing to Take Risks: Ilana did not want to disclose she had a shellfish allergy even though they were eating seafood, and she had an allergic reaction. Her face swelled up, but she kept eating because she ‘knew her limits’. Ilana demonstrated a big willingness to take a risk, and not a small one.
  • Aggressive: As the reaction got worse, Abbi was trying to administer Ilana’s epipen on her. Abbi accidentally stabbed herself and got a rush of adrenaline. Her facial expressions conveyed aggression after the epipen. She started screaming really loud, and picked up Ilana to march her out of the restaurant.

Feminine:

  • Appearance: When walking into the restaurant, Abbi and Ilana are seen in upscale dresses, full with heels and a face of makeup. They matched the dress code of the restaurant and fit in very nicely.

Other notes:

  • Before the girls went out for dinner, they walked past a park where men were playing basketball. The cameras cut to the men in a dramatic way and there was a ‘reverse male gaze’ on them. Ilana and Abbi gawked over the men for several minutes until a player told them to leave because they were making them uncomfortable. A scene like this is typically from a males perspective.
