In this post I will be explaining the Sex Role Traits of Polly Cooper one of the Main Character in the teen Drama Riverdale using the Items of the Bem Sex Role Inventory.

Polly Cooper is one of the main character in the show Riverdale. Throughout her time on the 4 seasons we have seen her develop as the young fun loving sister to Betty, who was on the cheerleading team and dating one of Riverdale’s top football stars and captain Jason Bloosm, eventually they break up she is put into a home for troubled youth and Jason shortly after is found dead along sweet water river. She is also pregnant with Jasons twins, which we later find out that Jason is also her second cousin… talk about gross.   For all she has been put through with her past and the involvement with dead boyfriend Jason and the Blooms’ , she has some very strong traits that I’m excited to uncover.

Feminine

Affectionate- She loves her twins even though they were brought into a world she didn’t want them to grow up in, a grandfather who was the serial killer the black hood and the family of Bloosms’ who’s family maple syrup business was just a front for drugs. This isn’t the ideal world for her children to be raised in, so in response she takes the twins to a place called the farm which ends up being a cult like camp, but she had the right intentions for her kids.

Eager to soothe hurt feelings- She is the first one to go see her father once he is arrested for the murders that the black hood had committed, now whether this was of her own will or the healing of the farm, she was doing this because the farm taught her that if she didn’t forgive him it would eat her alive with guilt.

Gullible- While she was away at the home for troubled youth she was under the impression that her and Jason were still gonna make a get away to the farm and raise their family there. Now this isn’t exactly her fault for still thinking this because her family neglected to tell her her boyfriend and baby daddy was dead.

Masculine

Independent- She is going to do whatever she wants in the best interest of her children and in doing so she is on her own. She is an independent single mother who is trying to give her children a good and safe home.

Willing to take risks- She was a high schooler who was put into a home, escaped while pregnant, hid in her parents attic, and then ran away to the farm to have her two babies without any family and without knowing anyone at the farm, now I would say all those things are pretty risky.

Defends own beliefs- She believes in the ideals of the farm and thinks that this is not only best for her but also for her new growing family. She stands up to her mother and the Blooms’ when it comes to this. She is going to do what she feels best for her children and no one will stop her.

In Conclusion

In Conclusion Polly Cooper is someone who falls more under the masculine side to the list of the Bem Sex Role Inventory list. She is someone who is willing to protect her children and their lives to come, she also defends this decisions and holds true to them.
