Examples of Masculine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Strong personality: When talking with Mel about the Harry in Tartarus and Galvin learning about witchcraft situations, Macy attempts to diffuse the tension with humor, saying, “Sorry, I don’t deal with stress well.”
- Leadership abilities: Macy and Galvin work together to investigate the lab supervisor, Dr. Julia Wagner, who is the human ex-wife of demon Alistair Caine, and the mother of Parker. She also takes the lead on questioning the guard of Tartarus, Dante.
- Aggressive/willing to take a stand: Macy uses her telekinesis and the Power of Three with her sisters to fight back against Alistair, who confronts the sisters and Harry outside Tartarus’s gate near the end of the episode.
Examples of Feminine Personality Traits Exhibited by Macy Vaughn:
- Affectionate: To avoid getting caught by Julia going through her office files, Galvin and Macy create a different diversion by making out in her office, getting caught, and quickly leaving with their flash drive, a stark change from the last episode, when Macy was awkward about kissing Galvin under the mistletoe.
- Understanding: Macy is willing to give Galvin some space to process the information that she and her sisters are witches destined to save the world from the apocalypse.
- Warm/tender: After rescuing Maggie and Harry from the depths of Tartarus late in the episode, Macy helps Mel prepare tea for Harry just the way he likes it, as both he and Maggie have been emotionally and physically drained from their time in Hell.
Conclusion: This episode showcases how much Macy has grown into a leadership role as a witch, specifically in how she keeps tabs on Dr. Wagner, saves Maggie and Harry with Mel, and stands up to Alistair. She is also growing more into her role as a sister, friend, and romantic partner, by being there for Maggie, Harry, and Galvin, and by giving them space when they need it. In the last moments of the episode, it also becomes clear why the show has been building up the Maggie/Macy relationship so much: Dr. Wagner (and by extension, Macy and Galvin) has discovered through DNA sequencing that Macy is actually Maggie’s full sister, and Mel is actually the half-sibling! It will be interesting to see how this development changes how Macy perceives herself in later episodes.
