In New Girl, episode 7, Jesse breaks stereotypes right in the beginning of the episode by saying to the boys, “I am not asking permission, I am giving you a heads up.” She is breaking feminine stereotypes by being assertive. Another character breaking stereotypes in this episode is Schmidt. Schmidt goes off on Nick for using his conditioner and lists off the scent and all the benefits of his conditioner. This is seen as “girly” and more feminine because he cares a lot about his appearance. Schmidt also breaks stereotypes by saying he needs to grab his cardigan before leaving. Again, showing he has feminine traits of grabbing a cardigan when it is cold and caring more about what he looks like.
