This September 2020 issue of Sports Illustrated brings light to high school athletes, both male and female. One primary aspect of Goffman’s Gender Displays show how advertising tends to keep men in power positions even from a young age.

Goffman’s Gender Displays
  1. Relative Size
    • In this photo of both athletes, the male athlete is slightly bigger and standing more in front of the female athlete. This portrays the man as more important and prominent than the woman.
On the other hand…

In this cover, the female defies the categorization of licensed withdrawal. She is an active member of the photo and engages with the audience. This goes against a normal female stereotype within an advertisement and doesn’t give an appeal of looking at her body.
