The media that I am analyzing is an ad from Zara.com for mens shirts. Zara is a clothing store that sells fashionable men’s and women’s clothes, where the models for the clothes look less like real people but models because of their poses and faces. Gender is seen here because it is an ad for a mens shirt. This model has nicely combed hair, clean shaven face and a gaze that makes him serious. The shirt seems like a work shirt so he is “professional” looking and means business. Everything about him looks clean from head to toe, he looks like a man yet he is a model and very smooth about getting the message across about how a man should look in the work place. The theory that I am connecting him to is the sex role theory which pertains to how different sexes are viewed by society.
