Sex Role Analysis:

  • Women are portrayed in domestic settings
    • Both wives (Lois and Marge) are stay at home moms who take care of the house and the kids

Worth noting:

  • Role Schema:
    • “Come laugh at our male nurses”
      • Schema- Men aren’t nurses, men are doctors
      • Nurses are caring, sensitive; things that men aren’t described as
    • Lady security guard-
      • “Oh good we can steal.”
      • Women are looked at as weaker than men
      • When in roles that don’t match the schema they are often not taken seriously
  • Inescapable Intertextuality:
    • Car wash scene- Peter and Homer wash the cars to “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard
    • Usually sexy girls washing cars in short shorts, small revealing white tops, high heels but its Peter and Homer
    • Draws attention to stereotype
