Sex Role Analysis:

  • Men in professional roles vs women in domestic roles:
    • Tokyo company cutaway- all the workers in the conference room were male
    • Male news anchor for breaking news
    • Female housekeeper
    • Male NASA employees (engineers, STEM careers)
    • “Hey, you’re a girl, I just figured that out.”
      • Different to have a girl in the program that one of the characters pointed it out

Worth noting:

  • Body Image:
    • Chris writes an essay on Mrs. Donovan, his teacher:
      • “She eats a whole tube of cookie dough, but she must be allergic to it because there are tears coming out of her eyes and she always throws up right after”
      • Ideal bodies for women are thin and attractive
      • Can lead to eating disorders, in this case it is bulimia nervosa
    • An older woman tries to date younger men
      • “This isn’t millage this is experience”
      • Only like women who are young and  attractive
