Power Structures enforcing Masculinity and Femininity

  • Masculinity
    • Men are actively allowed to be with more than one woman with only mild humiliation. Ray has a wife and a girlfriend, and at one point two characters say, “Now I have to call his wife,” and “I’ll call his girlfriend”. Ray also knows a prostitute at a hotel that they check.
    • The Cheif complains about Agent Carter being dumped in their lap after she helped her friend get out of the interrogation, and sabatoged the SSR’s trail on Stark. He complains about this because she is a woman and didn’t think things through before having him sign off.
  • Femininity
    • Men not allowed to live in the Griffith, character is kicked out because her boyfriend snuck in. Women are supposed to remain pure and untarnished while living there.
    • Agent Carter can’t call in the stolen items, as that would put her in the position of being on Stark’s side, which could cost her her job.
