In episode six, there is a neighborhood yard sale. Gabby gets a surprise visitor while Lynette is busy helping with her kids play. Bree is still working out her marital issues, and Susan becomes an investigator. 

This episode would pass the Bechdel test. 

  • There are four main characters that are girls 
  • The four girls are all neighbors and close friends, so they interact almost daily
  • In this episode, while playing poker, Lynette shares her new mom drama at the academy. 

Bree

  • Feminine characteristics: does not use harsh language, soft-spoken, compassionate, understanding, sensitive to others’ needs, loyal, not susceptible to flattery, affectionate
    • As Bree and Rex work out their problems, she learns of his issue with their sex life. With this in mind, she surprises him to try and spice things up. 
  • Masculine characteristics: defends own beliefs, willing to take risks, dominant 
    • Bree is the primary decision maker in her marriage. She is always determining what is right and wrong. 

Susan

  • Feminine characteristics: eager to soothe hurt feelings, understanding, compassionate 
    • Susan is determined to figure out where Zach is in order to figure out why Mary Alice took her own life. 
  • Masculine characteristics: willing to take risks, makes decisions easily
    • Susan borrows a neighbor’s car to follow Paul, and she discovers where he is keeping him. Her and her daughter make a plan to sneak into the facility to talk to Zach. 

Lynette

  • Feminine characteristics: yielding, loves children
    • Lynette decides to make costumes for her kids’ school play. She does everything that the “head mom” tells her to do to ensure her boys don’t get cut.
  • Masculine characteristics: defends own beliefs, leadership ability, willing to take a stand, competitive, ambitious 
    • Lynette started the debate of not changing the ending of the play, Red Riding Hood. Once she begins making the costumes, she realizes she is running out of time, so she takes her kids ADD medication. 

Gabby

  • Feminine characteristics: affectionate, feminine, compassionate, eager to soothe hurt feelings, childlike
    • Gabby uses her feminine ways to convince her husband to keep their maid. Her mother in law is still following her to try and keep her away from John. 
  • Masculine characteristics: strong personality, willing to take risks, makes decisions easily, willing to take a stand, 
    • Gabby takes her mother in law to a casino buffet after finding out she used to have a gambling problem. This allowed Gabby to sneak away for an hour to see John.
