In episode twenty, the neighborhood gathers for Carlos’s going away party while the girls have their many troubles and inquires. 

This episode wouldn’t pass the Bechdel test. 

  • There are four main characters that are girls 
  • The four girls are all neighbors and close friends, so they interact almost daily
  • In this episode, every conversation revolved around a male. 

Bree- george stalks, 

  • Feminine characteristics: No susceptible to flattery, Compassionate, Gullible
    • Bree looks for the best in people causing her to overlook the bad; this causes her to befriend a man who is obsessed with her, regardless of her husband’s warning. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Willing to take a risk, Willing to take a stand 
    • Bree makes it clear that she will be friends with their pharmacist, George, regardless of her husband saying no and their dating history. 

Susan

  • Feminine characteristics: Compassionate, Childlike, Loves children 
    • Susan does anything she can to protect Julie, especially from the boy next door. She still avoids Mike regardless of his attempts to make up. She tries to comfort Gabby after finding out she is pregnant. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Willing to take a stand 
    • Susan makes it clear to the boy next door, Zach, that he is not welcome and shouldn’t talk to Julie anymore. 

Lynette

  • Feminine characteristics: Loyal, Childlike, Loves children
    • Lynette invites Tom’s new co-worker and ex-girlfriend in an attempt to show their “strong marriage and family”. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Willing to take a risk, Willing to take a stand
    • Lynette tries to tell Tom that he needs to fire his new co-worker, who happens to be his ex-girlfriend. After this failed attempt, she decides to talk to her herself and invite her over for dinner. 

Gabby

  • Feminine characteristics: Sensitive to others’ needs, Gullible
    • Gabby fails to believe that she is pregnant regardless of the many tell tale signs. She throws Carlos a going away party as he leaves for jail in a few days. 
  • Masculine characteristics: Assertive, Aggressive 
    • Gabby becomes very angry when she finds out she is pregnant and sees her birth control was tampered with causing her to slap her husband at their party.
