In season 3, episode 1, of Lucifer, the main character, Lucifer, wakes up from a kidnapping in the middle of the desert – he has now lost his devil wings and gained angel wings, something which makes no sense to him. Lucifer Morningstar is, well, the Devil, so of course it’s weird. With this loss comes a feeling of emasculation within Lucifer, where he struggles to formulate his identity around a pair of angel wings, which are uncharacteristic for who he is as a person. These new wings warp his personal image as a reckless bad boy, they make him doubt his character in this episode. I think the real reason he is so upset about this loss/gain is not because of wings, but because his manhood feels threatened and he becomes emasculated in a sense. His version of a “man” must now change to conform to his new wings, or so he thinks..
