In episode three, the girls plan a dinner party in their friend’s honor that ends in a lot of drama. 

This episode would pass the Bechdel test. 

  • There are four main characters that are girls 
  • The four girls are all neighbors and close friends, so they interact almost daily
  • In this episode, the girls plan a dinner party

Bree- 

  • Feminine characteristics: cheerful, shy, sensitive to others’ needs, soft-spoken, warm, gullible, doesn’t use harsh language, gentle 
    • While Bree is in marriage counseling, she is in denial that there are any problems. She deeply tries to hide everything from her children, friends, and herself. She consistently presents herself as if nothing is wrong. 
  • Masculine characteristics: defends own beliefs, strong personality, willing to take risks, willing to take a stand, act as a leader, ambitious 
    • Bree is doing everything in her power to make things right with Rex until he announces during the dinner party that they’re in counseling. 

Susan- 

  • Feminine characteristics: cheerful, feminine, sympathetic
    • As Susan is trying to win over Mike, she brings out a very feminine side as her daughter is gone for the weekend. 
  • Masculine characteristics: self-reliant, willing to take a stand 
    • Since she is alone for the weekend, she is very reliant on herself. She also tries to force her ex-husband into apologizing after cheating on her with his new girlfriend. 

Lynette- 

  • Feminine characteristics: cheerful, loves children
    • Lynette is very excited for a night out as she is always home taking care of the children. 
  • Masculine characteristics: acts as a leader
    • Since Lynette is the parent figure that is home the most, she tries to “teach” Tom how to take care of the kids for a night while she goes out. 

Gabby- 

  • Feminine characteristics: yielding, affectionate, loves children
    • Although Gabby usually does what her husband asks, she has begun an intimate relationship with their gardener. While with the gardener, a little girl sees them, so she tries to buy her silence with a bike. 
  • Masculine characteristics: willing to take risks, makes decisions easily
    • Gabby is usually quick to make decisions which usually end up being very selfish and risky ones.
