Week 15: End of the First Semester

Categories Full Spectrum Learning Research

This week officially ended the first semester for me at St. Norbert and also the end of the first semester of work for Full Spectrum Learning. Through this semester I have continued to work towards my four goals and accomplished some things I was not expecting.

The main thing I was not expecting to experience were different presentations. I have had the opportunity to present on two different occasions. The first and major presentation was for the St. Norbert Board of Trustees and it was an incredible experience. The second experience was this past week, presenting for the Retiree Association. I learned that I really love talking about my domain because I created almost every part of it. However, I also realized, no matter the situation, I will always be unnecessarily nervous before I speak in front of a group.

One thing I am surprised at how much I have enjoyed was the use of WordPress along with HTML and CSS coding. In high school, I liked to design websites, but I never really liked to code the site. Now, I have realized how much of a puzzle coding is and it has helped me to confirm what I want to do in the future.

Another thing I have learned is the necessity of communication. This has become an extreme necessity within the last few weeks. We have started to film professors and students, and connecting everyone’s schedules definitely can become very hectic. Communicating, especially with Ruthie, has become extremely important to make sure we have every base covered. I am very used to individual projects or taking the lead on all group projects and just doing them myself. Working with this group has been a very different experience than I have had in the past and it took some getting used to.

I have learned countless things, especially about different technologies. These include looking at other’s schedules on Google Calendar, scheduling group events, using WordPress, and the necessity of team drives.

The main project I am most excited for next semester is expanding on the color grid. This idea is very new and I’m excited to get to be a bit more creative to improve the grid.

I am so thankful for the experience to work on this team and everything I have learned this semester. I can’t wait to learn even more next semester!

  1. You have made significant contributions to our FSL efforts, Cassie. Thanks for being willing to learn and helping me to learn as well. I look forward to our next steps.
    Peace,

  2. Cassie! This term has been so amazing. Your contributions to the project have been so helpful and watching you learn and grow as a student and professional has been a highlight. Don’t underestimate your ability to one day get over the nervousness that comes with public speaking – with practice I think that you will find that will fade. I still get nervous sometimes if I fall out of practice but just like anything the more you do it the better you will get at it.
