\"Untitled<\/a> Each year, just before the semester begins, the college president hosts a welcome-back dinner for all faculty and staff. The highlight of the evening comes at the end of the meal, when tiny chocolate cups of Frigolet \u2013 a Norbertine liqueur \u2013 are served to each table and the Norbertines present lead us in a traditional Flanders drinking song: the \u201cVivat.\u201d This year, it was Father Rowland De Peaux \u201948<\/strong>, now in his 10th decade, who stood to do the honors.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re a magazine for an audience across multiple generations, but one produced in an environment that, by its very nature, is almost completely populated by the 18- to 65-year-old crowd. We love covering the doings of young adults \u2013 our students \u2013 and of the working population in higher-ed \u2013 our faculty and staff. But their constantly innovating, constantly producing presence poses something of a challenge if we hope to depict the full spectrum of human flourishing. \"Untitled<\/a>That\u2019s why it\u2019s such a delight when we have the chance to feature young children or seniors within our pages. Our photo features this issue span the decades, thanks to a young visitor to SNC Day and, of course, to our very own Father De Peaux (above). He, who has called our campus home for longer than any other resident, still actively serves in his role as chaplain to the alumni board. Vivat!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
