While analyzing with the Sex Role Perspective, I will utilize the items for evaluating masculinity and femininity as presented by Hyde (1995, p. 134), and these specific items will be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">italicized<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In this post, I will be discussing the music video for \u201cBackbone\u201d by Harrdy Sandhu\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Link to video: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bqGtrvcR5ls\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hardy Sandhu &#8211; Backbone | Jaani | B Praak | Zenith Sidhu | Latest Romantic Song 2017<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Evaluating Masculinity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the opening scene, the main male character and female character are seen running away after robbing a bank. The male character then helps the female character into a garbage can before jumping in himself to hide from police. This scene portrays the male character as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aggressive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">willing to take risks<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and his helping of his female accomplice shows that he is more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dominant<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">self-sufficient<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As he walks down the sidewalk, the main male character snatches a necklace from a lady walking past him. Then, he decides to steal a Porsche on the street. These crimes show him as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">forceful<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">assertive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ambitious<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in a way. These crimes are all spur of the moment, which shows that he also <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">makes decisions easily<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The crimes seem to largely be the idea of the main male character, and he seems to lead the female character in these crimes. This portrays him as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">acting as a leader<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main male character is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">affectionate, warm, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cheerful<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> towards the female character, doing things like constantly smiling at her and hugging her.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the majority of the music video, the male character wears clothing that is just as revealing as the female character\u2019s outfits. This breaks general masculine and feminine stereotypes regarding clothing and objectification.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evaluating Femininity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When with the male character, the main female character is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">affectionate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">warm, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gentle<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, as she does things like gently holding his hand and resting her head on his shoulder.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The male character picks up, twirls, and holds the female character. This portrays her as more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">childlike<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main female character has robbed a bank alongside the male character. This shows that she is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">willing to take risks<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and can be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">forceful <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aggressive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Based on her eye contact and mannerisms, it is apparent that the main female character has a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">strong personality<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a spur of the moment crime, while the male character distracts a man, the female character snatches his car keys in order to steal the man\u2019s Porsche. This shows that she is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">analytical<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">makes decisions easily<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the police squad chasing after the bank robbers, there is a female police officer, which shows a woman in a career that requires one to be <i><span>ambitious, assertive,<\/span><\/i><span> and <\/span><i><span>forceful<\/span><\/i><span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am analyzing the most viewed Bollywood music videos on YouTube using the Sex Role Perspective.
