While analyzing with the Sex Role Perspective, I will utilize the items for evaluating masculinity and femininity as presented by Hyde (1995, p. 134), and these specific items will be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">italicized<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Having the courage and drive to do this portrays him as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">self-reliant, ambitious<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">independent<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main male character is portrayed as being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a stereotypically feminine trait, as he quietly admires the main female character from afar in the coffee shop every day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When the main male character realizes that the main female character uses sign language to communicate, he immediately begins learning sign language so he can communicate with her. He then uses sign language while singing his songs in the coffee shop and later has conversations with the female character using sign language. His actions show that he is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sensitive to others\u2019 needs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compassionate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">loyal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This song is a love song. In it, the male artist sings phrases like, \u201cBe my queen, I\u2019ll be your king,\u201d and \u201cIf you get angry, I\u2019ll appease you instantly.\u201d Through lyrics like these, the male artist, who is also the main male character of the music video, is shown to be very <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">affectionate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender, gentle, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">yielding<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which are all stereotypically feminine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evaluating Femininity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main female character seems to be unable to speak and instead communicates using sign language. Choosing to give the female character this disability portrays her as more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> soft-spoken<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, as the disability makes her vulnerable in the sense that she cannot express herself to others who may not know sign language.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When the main male character communicates with her in sign language, the female character immediately opens up. She is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">warm <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cheerful<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main female character is often shown reading or working on her computer intently. This portrays her as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ambitious<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a stereotypically masculine trait. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">In general, the main female character does not pay much attention to the people around her, and she has a serious demeanor.
