{"id":4675,"date":"2021-10-25T23:53:12","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T23:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gamportfolio.drkretz.knight.domains\/gender-roles-in-popular-romantic-movies-of-the-2000s\/gender-roles-in-dear-john\/"},"modified":"2021-10-25T23:53:12","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T23:53:12","slug":"gender-roles-in-dear-john","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gamportfolio.drkretz.knight.domains\/gender-roles-in-popular-romantic-movies-of-the-2000s\/gender-roles-in-dear-john\/","title":{"rendered":"Gender Roles in Dear John"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The media I will be analyzing is the movie <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dear John.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> In this post I will be outlining the stereotypical gender roles given to us by the sex role perspective portrayed in the film by the main characters: John and Savannah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">John:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">John is very brave and athletic\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He is in the army\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He is always surfing\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He dives deep into the ocean to save Savannah\u2019s purse<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He is willing to take risks\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Goes way out of his way to talk to Savannah and to ask her out<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Goes back to the army even after his time<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Very dominant and masculine\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">John is very competitive about sports, girls, and just being the best.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">John is often very aggressive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">John is also very independent.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since his father has a learning disability, he raised himself.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Savannah:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Very soft spoken\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Does not use harsh language\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Savannah is very emotional and codependent\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She struggles a lot with being alone when John is deployed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is good with children<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Her passion is to work with children with special needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Savannah is very compassionate, sensitive to others feelings, and eager to soothe others needs.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She marries her family friend to take care of him and his son Alan when he gets sick, even though she loves John.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The media I will be analyzing is the movie Dear John.
