In this post I will be outlining the gender roles and power dynamics that are portrayed in the film by the relationships that are serious and monogamous throughout the film: David and Natalie, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jamie and Aur\u00e9lia, and Sarah and Carl.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">David and Natalie:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">David is the prime minister and Natlie is a housekeeper for him. Right away, there is a power dynamic.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Being the Prime Minister, David..\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">defends his own beliefs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Acts as a leader<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dormant\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">makes decisions easily\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">David gets very protective of Natalie, especially when the president makes a move on her.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instead of asking Natalie about the incident, he automatically transfers her to a different job, believing that he took care of it without even asking her.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Natlie is very soft spoken and gullible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Natile is gentle, understanding, and compassionate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jamie and Aur\u00e9lia:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aur\u00e9lia is Jamie\u2019s housekeeper at his cottage. She is always serving him and tending to his needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aur\u00e9lia and Jamie have a language barrier, because of this Jamie doesnt talk to her much, but Aur\u00e9lia talks to herself and is very soft spoken, childlike, and gullible.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aur\u00e9lia is extremely shy but also very loyal to her family and even Jamie, as his housekeeper.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jamie is very analytical and studious. He is in the middle of writing a book when he meets Jamie, and is always reading.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jamie is willing to take risks and take a stand.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With Aur\u00e9lia, it was a major risk to engage in a relationship with her but he still did.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sarah and Carl:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sarah is sensitive to others needs and quick to soothe hurt feelings<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She is always there for her brother whose wife just passed away, and is close with her nephew.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">she is often cheerful<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even when she starts to learn that her husband is cheating on her<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With her brother who is mourning his wife\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is loyal to her husband, even though he is not<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carl makes decisions quickly<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The scene in the store when he is shopping for his mistress\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carl is very analytical and smart\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carl is willing to take risks\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He is cheating on his wife<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The media I will be analyzing is the film: Love Actually.
