While analyzing with the Sex Role Perspective, I will utilize the items for evaluating masculinity and femininity as presented by Hyde (1995, p. 134), and these specific items will be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">italicized<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In this post, I will be discussing the music video for \u201cChittiyaan Kalaiyaan\u201d by Meet Bros Anjjan.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Link to video: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zpsVpnvFfZQ\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8216;Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan&#8217; FULL VIDEO SONG | Roy | Meet Bros Anjjan, Kanika Kapoor | T-SERIES<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Evaluating Masculinity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the flash mob that forms in the opening scene, all of the men are playing the drums, which shows them in a more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">forceful <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">role, compared to the women dancing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main male characters are shown in a very stereotypically masculine light, wearing sunglasses and dark colored clothing and rapping. In general, these main male characters are portrayed as being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dominant <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and having <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">strong personalities<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While most of the female background characters are either waitresses or bystanders, many of the male background characters are police officers and construction workers. This reinforces general stereotypes about masculinity and careers, portraying male characters as being more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">self-sufficient, forceful, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">analytical<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some of the male background characters are shown as quite <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">childlike<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. For instance, one man is wearing a clown costume and blowing a fan in the main female character\u2019s face.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are a few instances where male background characters are shown to be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cheerful <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">warm<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, stereotypically feminine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evaluating Femininity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main female character is portrayed as very <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">cheerful<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">warm<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In general, the clothing worn by the female characters is much more revealing, and camera angles draw attention to this and contribute to stereotypical objectification of female characters.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The singer of the band and the leader of the dancing flash mob in the opening scenes of the music video are both women. This shows female characters as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">acting as leaders<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">independent<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, stereotypically masculine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am analyzing the most viewed Bollywood music videos on YouTube using the Sex Role Perspective.
